Located in the heart of downtown Gahanna, the Gahanna Historical Society is housed in the old McAfee School, a well-known landmark in the city. The museum allows visitors to explore the many layers of Gahanna's past. One of the most popular exhibits is dedicated to the Underground Railroad and the stories of those who helped enslaved people escape to freedom. Here, visitors will learn about the brave individuals who risked their own lives to help freedom-seekers journey from bondage to freedom.

 

In addition to the Underground Railroad, the museum also features exhibits about the few remaining natural springs, the critical people and events that shaped the city, and the city’s economic transformation from a small farming community to a vibrant industrial hub. The museum also houses an impressive collection of artifacts representing the city’s history and culture, ranging from old photos and newspaper clippings to everyday items used by locals over the past hundred years.
